Always In Our Minds-Forever In Our Hearts

We sadly announce that on Thursday, May 21, 2020, our pastor, Reverend Billy G. Miller, affectionately known to us as "Pastor Bill," passed away.  He was a beautiful person of great humility, integrity, and unparalleled kindness who always had a ready smile and a helping hand.  And he had an endless reservoir of love for his family, friends, and church.  Pastor Bill was the SUNSHINE of our hearts and will be greatly missed! Details of the celebration for Pastor Miller will be given out when complete. In the meantime, if you have questions please reach out to a deacon.

Pastor Bill was one of my first mentors in ministry. He was a great Sunday School and he inspired me to love the Lord and love the Word of God. He was a man of integrity and I wouldn’t be where i am today without him. I appreciate him and love him. My condolences to the family and church.

How blessed we were here in state of Nevada to have you as a companion and co-laborer of Jesus Christ . You served the Captive Free Christian Center well and your contribution to the District and State Convention work will never be forgotten. I am glad we were able to serve God together on this side of judgement. Rest well pastor Miller and I will see you in the morning !!!

My first interactions with Rev. Billy Miller is when he invited me to preach at Jean Prison in July 1990. I did not know exactly what the protocol in preaching at there was, so he accompanied me there to make sure I learned the process and introduced me to their inmates there. My next time I worked with Pastor Miller was when he invited me to preach at Captives Free when he first started the church. There are many times when I worked with Pastor Miller such as in the District, State, and National Baptist Meetings. He was a good man, good preacher, good pastor, and good person. I always admired Pastor Miller. I am saddened about his passing away, but I do rejoice knowing he is in heaven. I will be in prayer for the Miller and Captives Free Family.

To the Miller family and members of Captives Free, Bill Miller was a wonderful man and I've loved him since I can remember. I will always have fond memories of him being over Sunday School until he moved on up to being a church leader. Brother Bill always treated me with kindness. Peace and blessings until we meet again.

I remember visiting his church years ago and him throwing me and a few other ministers up that Morning to preach. I was so nervous. He told me then to always keep a word in your heart and a word in your hands. I will never forget his teaching on evangelism and street witnessing. He was so passionate about the church outside the walls.
You will be missed and remembered always. You took time for young upcoming preachers like myself and taught wisdom that I continue to hold on to. I love you always sir. Thank you for being a light in this city and community. For being humble and caring about the people of God. For being authentic and rare. Take your rest, you fought a good fight of faith and finished the course. We celebrate the life you lived before the Lord.
My condolences and prayers to your family and your church family.
    Rest Peacefully
    Reverend Kathy LaFleur

I will never forget the incredible words of wisdom and the powerful prayers of encouragement. Pastor was a bright light that showed the way to Jesus. That smile made everything feel like it was going to be okay. I appreciate all the times he visited my husband in the nursing home, praying for him and encouraging me even when he didn’t feel his best. I am grateful to have had a pastor who was so caring. I love you and will miss you till we meet again in heaven. My heart goes out to the family, friends and church. As Pastor Bill would say...God is in control.

It sadden my heart to hear about the death of Pastor Miller. I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to his family and his church family. He was a man that believed in Christian education not only for himself but for his congregation at Captives Free Christian Center as well. He was a student in many of my classes over the years. He was in my "Leadership: Called to Serve"class at a Leadership Conference at Second Baptist Church this past January 2020. He prayed during one of the class sessions; asked questions and gave spiritual insight. We learned a lot and had fun in the class. At the conclusion of the conference Pastor Miller and I met up in the parking lot on our way to our vehicles. We laughed and joked around for a bit and said goodbye. He had an electrifying smile that made you smile even if you didn't want to smile. I said to myself what a good example of servant leadership this man is. So, Pastor Miller, I'm glad God shared you with me. I don't want to say goodbye but I'll see you later on the other side.

My love, prayers and heartfelt support go out to the family. Pastor Bill Miller had an infectious smile! Everywhere I would encounter him, be it at the shop (Illusions), Home Depot or church, his smile radiated the warmth of his soul. The love he had for his wife, family, and people of God has left an impression on me that we last forever. What a wonderful example of a man of God!

With a very heavy heart my nephew who I considered a brother has answered the lords call. We will miss you dearly and Myself, Robert, Dorothy, and Patsy will cherish all the joyous memories we shared growing up in the same house. Bill was a family man and a pillar for the hill family. He loved his church family dearly and flashed his beautiful smile to anyone he met. He was truly an exceptional man of God. Pastor Billy Miller we love you, sleep on, and take your rest. See you in the morning❤
